About Unscramblr (UK)

Unscramblr is a free word unscrambler for Wordfeud, Scrabble, and other tile-based word games. This page uses the British (SOWPODS / Collins Scrabble Words) word list, which contains more valid words than the North American TWL list – especially short and uncommon words.

Enter up to 7 letters from your rack and Unscramblr instantly finds every valid word you can play, sorted by score so the best moves come first.

How it works

Type your letters into the box and press Find words (or hit Enter). Unscramblr searches the SOWPODS dictionary and returns every combination that can be formed from your tiles. Use the length filters to narrow results – for example, filter to 7-letter words to find bingos (using all your tiles for a 35–50 point bonus).

SOWPODS vs TWL

SOWPODS (also known as Collins Scrabble Words) is used in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of the world outside North America. It contains roughly 50,000 more words than the TWL list used in the US and Canada – including words like ZO, QI variants and many British-English spellings. If you're playing Wordfeud or Scrabble outside North America, this is the list you want.

Tips for winning at Wordfeud & Scrabble

Finding the right word is only part of the game. Here are some strategies that separate good players from great ones.

🎯 Go for the bingo
Using all 7 tiles in one move earns a 35-point bonus in Wordfeud (50 in Scrabble). Always filter for 7-letter words first – even a low-scoring 7-letter word often beats a high-scoring shorter one.
Try: AELRSTE → STALER, ALERTS, ALTERS
💎 Know the high-value letters
Q, Z, X and J are worth the most points. Learn short words that use them: QI, ZA, AX, JO. These let you play high-value tiles even when the board is tight.
QI (11p), ZA (11p), AX (9p), JO (9p)
📐 Double and triple squares
The position of a word matters as much as its score. A 5-point word on a triple word square beats a 12-point word played elsewhere. Plan a few moves ahead to set up premium squares.
🔤 Manage your rack
Avoid hoarding too many vowels or consonants. A balanced rack (4 consonants, 3 vowels) gives you more options. If you have 5+ vowels, look for a play that gets rid of several at once.
🔗 Play parallel
Instead of extending a word, try playing parallel to an existing word. This often scores double by creating multiple short words simultaneously – and uses more of the board.
🛡️ Don't open triple squares
Be careful about playing next to triple word squares in a way that lets your opponent use them. Sometimes a lower-scoring move that blocks a premium square is the smarter play.

Best 2-letter words to memorise (SOWPODS)

Short words are the backbone of expert play. The SOWPODS list adds several extra two-letter words on top of the TWL list, including: CH, DA, DI, EA, EE, FY, GI, GU, IO, JA, KO, KY, NY, OB, OO, OU, PH, PO, QI, ST, TE, UG, ZO. Combined with the standard TWL twos (AA, AB, AD, AE, AH, AI, AL, AM, AN, AR, AT, AW, AX, AY, BA, BE, BI, BO, BY, DE, DO, ED, EF, EH, EL, EM, EN, ER, ES, ET, EX, FA, FE, GO, HA, HE, HI, HM, HO, ID, IF, IN, IS, IT, JO, KA, LA, LI, LO, MA, ME, MI, MM, MO, MU, MY, NA, NE, NO, NU, OD, OE, OF, OH, OI, OM, ON, OP, OR, OS, OW, OX, OY, PA, PE, PI, RE, SH, SI, SO, TA, TI, TO, UH, UM, UN, UP, UT, WE, WO, XI, XU, YA, YE, ZA), you have over a hundred two-letter plays at your disposal.

Frequently asked questions

Is Unscramblr free?

Yes — Unscramblr is completely free to use, with no signup, no app to install and no usage limits. You can search as many letter combinations as you like.

Is using a word finder allowed in Wordfeud or Scrabble?

It depends on the context. In casual play with friends, most people use word finders to learn new words and improve their game — both Wordfeud and Scrabble allow it. In sanctioned tournament play, however, using outside help is against the rules.

Which word list does the UK version use?

The UK page uses SOWPODS (also known as Collins Scrabble Words), the official Scrabble word list used in the UK, Europe, Australia and most of the world outside North America. It contains roughly 50,000 more words than the North American TWL list.

How do I find a 7-letter bingo?

Enter all 7 of your letters, then click the 7 letters filter above the results. If a valid seven-letter play is possible, it will appear. Bingos earn a 35–50 point bonus depending on the game, so they're often the single most valuable move available.

Why isn't a word I think is valid showing up?

Two common reasons: (1) the word may not be in the official tournament list for that game, even if it's in a regular dictionary, and (2) Unscramblr does not currently support blank tiles or wildcards — every letter you enter must be in the final word.

Does Unscramblr work on my phone?

Yes. The whole site is built mobile-first and works on any modern phone or tablet browser. Just bookmark unscramblr.app or add it to your home screen for one-tap access.
